Now is GoDaddy's turn to leave China

Google seems to have become the pioneer martyr on the struggle of internet freedom in China. After this internet giant, a leading internet domain company -- GoDaddy -- has joined in boycotting this one of the Four Asian Tiger country.

Go Daddy Group, the world's largest domain name registration company, start feeling uncomfortable about the government policy in China. This American companies are choosing to no longer offer the domain name ending with .cn on prospective applicants since China gov asked for detailed information about all .cn registrant.

China rules mention that anyone who registered .cn domain must give his/her personal data and personal photos. Before, applicants were required to submit all the information themselves but not as much detail as what China government is asking today.

These steps were taken by China to improve their controls over all site's content. Not only that, China is also threatening to «end» the .cn domain name owner if they do not want to give the information requested.

GoDaddy itself has as many as 40 million domain names under their management. The company claim that they will continue to serve the existing customers who has been using .cn domain name, but have a plan to no longer offer this China-associated TLD.

«We are concerned about the security of each individual regarding to the request of China's gov,» said Christine Jones representing the Go Daddy Group, on the WashingtonPost as quoted by detikINET, Friday (26/3/2010).

So now, after Google and Go Daddy, who's next??
